연구실소개

 우리 생활에서 종이는 가장 친근하게 널리 쓰이는 필수품 중 하나이다. 종이가 없었다면 인류 문화발전과 산업발전은 불가능하였을 것이고, 역사의 단절을 경험하였을지도 모른다. 종이는 주로 셀룰로오스를 핵심 코어로, 일부 리그닌을 핵심 부재로 사용하여 제조되는 재료로서 인쇄 및 필기, 포장, 그리고 다양한 기능성 용도로 사용되고 있다. 현재 국내 제지산업은 연간 약 1천만 톤 이상의 종이를 생산하는 세계 6대 제지강국 중 하나로 도약하였다.
  펄프종이신소재 연구실에서는 펄프로부터 종이의 제조 및 가공에 이르기까지 제지산업을 아우르는 다양한 연구를 수행하고 있다. 현재 새로운 펄프화 원료 탐색, 지료조성을 포함한 초지공정 개선, 제지용 필수장비의 국산화, 셀룰로오스 섬유 기반 친환경 소재 개발, 목질계 바이오매스를 이용한 신재생 에너지 연료 개발 등 다양한 연구를 진행하고 있으며 이를 통해 펄프제지업계를 선도할 핵심전문인력을 양성하고 있다.

 Paper is one of the most familiar and widely used necessities in our daily life. Without paper, human cultural  and industrial development would have been impossible, and our history might have been cut off. Paper is a material manufactured mainly using cellulose as a core and some lignin as a sub core, and is used for printing& writing, packaging, and various functional purposes. Currently, the domestic paper industry has leaped to become one of the world's six major papermaking countries, producing over 10 million tons of paper per year.
  The Pulp&Paper Adavanced Materials Lab. conducts various researches covering the paper industry from pulp to paper manufacturing and processing. Currently, the lab. is carrying out various researches such as the exploration of new raw materials for pulping, improvement of the papermaking process including the stock preparation, the localization of essential equipments for papermaking, the development of eco-friendly materials based on cellulose fibers, and the development of new and renewable energy fuels using lignocellulosic biomass. The lab. is nurturing key professionals who will lead the pulp&paper industry in Korea.
